When first reading this article, I was initially very confused about why they would change their name and what their art stood for. After taking some time to understand and reread it, I find the name change as a step in the right direction for the art community. By not only being they/them but also African-American, they start to push the idea of stereotypes and what it'll take to break them. I also enjoy their artwork for the complex concepts and think bringing digitization and current issues present on many media platforms allows for the pieces to have a wide outreach and audience. I'm interested to see what Artist does next.
